Welcome a Full Moon in Taurus on Nov. 4. With the Sun in Scorpio, this should make for a few fun surprises. Taurus will lend a steadying influence to the radically transformative, passionate, and slightly dramatic Scorpio energy. You may appreciate the calm circle surrounding the chaotic center. Madame G recommends mediation...

Letter to the Editor: The Time is Now to Expand NM PreK

The New Mexico Early Childhood Development Partnership (NMECDP) recently spent the day in Gallup. The day included a visit to Rehoboth Early Childhood Center and a lunch and community conversation at the Gallup Community Service Center.

NMECDP is focusing on a multi-year initiative to expand the state-funded, voluntary state PreK program to every 3-and 4-year-old who wants it. According to KIDS COUNT, 45.5% of McKinley County’s children, ages 0-5, live in poverty.  Only 49.6% of McKinley County’s 3 and 4-year-olds are enrolled in PreK. The Race for Results report uses an index that measures children’s progress on key education, health, and economic milestones, and across racial and ethnic groups at the national and state levels. The report’s...

Consider Scorpio’s higher symbol, the Phoenix, as the ultimate symbol for transformation. The Phoenix is reborn from the ashes. How will you be reborn? Madame G says: Happy Halloween!

Home is where the startup is

The blueprint for starting a home-based enterprise in New Mexico can be a simple sketch or a complicated technical drawing. It all depends on the business type and location.

Common to all businesses is the need to pick a structure, secure a Combined Reporting System number, register with the city or county, obtain required permits or certifications and decide whether to hire employees and interact with customers or to work alone as an independent contractor.

The individual working from home also must comply with zoning laws, secure a certificate of occupancy and business license and track deductible costs related to home-based businesses.
