Workout buffs and couch potatoes alike at some point in time have come across weights with the built-in handle while shopping at big box and sporting goods retailers.

But, these weights, formally called “kettlebells,” are not a part of some new fitness fad. Kettlebell weights and training go back hundreds of years, according to Gallup School of Strength co-owner Greg McNeil. He said the word “kettlebell” was first noted in a Russian dictionary, compiled in the early 1700s.

The Gurley Motor Company Car, Truck, and Street Rod Show

The 13th Annual Gurley Motor Company Car, Truck, and Street Rod Show will roll into downtown Gallup July 26-28 as part of the 6th Annual Freedom Ride, Flight, and Cruise.

The Sun spoke with Steve Gurley July 16 about the car show and how it has grown.

“We started out 13 years ago. We had about 20 participants,” Gurley said. “We have grown to include participants from California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. This year we are expecting about 100 entrants.”

Rico Auto Complex talks history, future plans

While the exact opening date in 1919 is unclear, one thing for certain is that Rico Auto Complex will celebrate its 100th year in business this month.

The Sun met with Rico Auto Complex sales managers, and brothers, Marty and Mickey Menapace June 3 to discuss the history of the dealership, as well as how they feel about carrying on a family tradition.

In addition to the the glistening showroom of new vehicles, the brothers take pride in Rico’s vehicle repair and maintenance department – and how it benefits their customers in the long run.

Students and staff say new building is a winner

Rehoboth Christian School to hold April 27 open house

After years of planning, fundraising, and construction, the new Rehoboth High School building opened for students in August.

The Sun covered the groundbreaking and construction of the new building since the project began in May 2017.

Bob Ippel, executive director for Rehoboth High School, says that the finished building represents the dreams students and staff had for their school.
