Preservation made difficult by lack of action from Congress

One of the best things about living in New Mexico is the abundance of great natural beauty and opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

Whether it’s the view from just about any rural highway or one of the many state and national parks and forests, New Mexico boasts some of the most beautiful land in the nation. It is a heritage that all proud New Mexicans want to protect for future generations, a pride woven into our culture.

The preservation of our public lands is a sacred trust, but it’s being made more difficult by the inaction of Congress.

Santa is big business — too big

Before the 1840s, Christmas was about the birth of Jesus, get-togethers with family and friends, and celebrating the holiday with favorite foods.

According to the Pew Research Center, 33 percent of those who were surveyed dread the commercialism/materialism of the holiday and 73 percent of people agree that the true meaning of Christmas is being phased out in favor of new gadgets, new clothes, and new stuff. www.pewforum.org.
