Newcomb man pleads guilty to assault up on a federal officer

A man from Newcomb is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted two Navajo Police officers.

On June 4, 59-year-old Kenneth Lee Begay interrupted a Chapter House meeting with verbal threats. Afterwards, two Navajo Nation Police Department officers went to his home. As the officers tried to arrest Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation, he unlawfully resisted.

Begay struck both officers. One of the officers received various injuries, which included cuts, abrasions, and a shoulder injury that persists to the present day.

Zuni man pleads guilty to firearms offense

A man from Zuni New Mexico has pled guilty to a federal firearms offense after he reportedly shot a man in the heel.

A federal grand jury indicted 31-year-old Ian Channing Lasiloo on March 21. In his plea agreement, Laslioo, a member of the Zuni Tribe, admitted that he drove to of the residence of a man and asked him “where my 40 was.”  The victim replied that he didn’t owe Lasiloo anything.  While still in the driver’s seat of the car, and approximately five feet away from the victim, Lasiloo pointed a .22 caliber revolver at the victim's face and then pointed the weapon downwards.  Lasiloo then fired the weapon one time, shooting the man in the heel.

Tse Bonito man sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor

A man from Tse Bonito New Mexico has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

​A federal grand jury returned an indictment against 37-year-old Gerald Lee on Oct. 12, 2022. According to publicly available court documents, on May 15, 2021, when he was 35 years old, Lee, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, forcibly raped the 15-year-old victim at his mother’s house within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation. Afterwards, Lee warned the victim not to tell anybody about what he had done, but the victim eventually told a teacher and counselor at her school. Navajo Nation Council pays tribute to the life of former Sawmill Chapter Vice President Harold Morgan

WINDOW ROCK, Arizona — On behalf of the 25th Navajo Nation Council, Speaker Crystalyne Curley offers condolences to the family of Sawmill, Arizona community member Harold Morgan, who passed away on Feb. 18 at the age of 85 years old.

Harold is Dibé Łizhiní and born for Tséníjíkiní. His maternal grandfather is Tábaahí and his paternal grandfather is Tó’aheedlíinii. He served as the Sawmill Chapter Secretary from 1996 to 2004 and the Sawmill Chapter Vice-President from 2004 yo 2008.
