Gallup electric utility customers are eligible for a rebate on certain energy efficient refrigerators through a  program offered by the City of Gallup.

Charles Nourse, Electric Department Director, and staff are asking the community to apply for the rebate to  further enjoy the benefits of energy efficiency. If approved for the rebate, customers will have a $100 credit  applied to their utility account.

“Fridges are one of the heaviest consumers of energy,” Nourse said. “In addition to the savings consumers can realize throughout the year, this rebate is another great incentive to make the switch to energy efficient fridges.”

The City of Gallup is seeking proposals from area artists to help create an installation dedicated to honoring the legacy of Juan Delgado. Proposals are sought to have an artist create a painting, mural, or another art medium that can be mounted inside of a frame/shadow box. The piece should be approximately 4.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall and designed to be framed or mounted in a shadow box, which will then be mounted on the dining room wall of the planned Gallup Regional Senior Center.

ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed critical public safety legislation to reduce gun violence and strengthen penalties for violent criminals on March 4.

“This legislation strikes at the heart of issues that are keeping New Mexicans up at night,” Lujan Grisham said. "“We are losing far too many lives when guns get into the wrong hands and violent criminals are allowed to recommit again and again. This legislation addresses both.”

SANTA FE — In response to THE Feb. 28 endorsement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ recommendation, the New Mexico Department of Health is urging adults aged 65 and older to receive an additional updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine dose for enhanced protection against severe outcomes of the virus.

“Most COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations last year were among people 65 years and older,” Dr. Miranda Durham, chief medical officer for NMDOH, said. “An additional vaccine dose can provide added protection that may have decreased over time for those at highest risk."
