Man shoots, kills NMSP officer during traffic stop

A New Mexico State Police Officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 40.

During the early hours of March 15, NMSP Officer Justin Hare, 35, pulled a man over on I-40 near mile marker 320, which is near Tucumcari, New Mexico.

At some point during the interaction, the suspect, who was last seen wearing a a brown hoodie and jacket, shot Hare. He died at the scene.

As of 2:15 pm on March 15 NMSP is still trying to locate the suspect. In a Facebook post they warned the public that the man is armed and dangerous. He was last seen on I-40 near the 304 milepost, which is between Montoya and Newkirk.

SAINT MICHAELS, Ariz. — Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development launched its third round of financial relief aimed at artisans and small business owners that suffered financial loss and hardships due to the pandemic and government shutdown on March 6.

Council votes to change the Navajo Nation’s 2024 primary election date

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council held a special session on March 8 and approved an emergency legislation changing the Navajo Nation Primary Election date to July 30.The change will only apply to the 2024 primary election and will not carry over to the next year.

According to Navajo Election Code, the Navajo Nation’s primary elections are held the first Tuesday in August for any year in which a general election is held and at which candidates for public office are to be elected.

Arizona man pleads guilty to abusive sexual conduct

A man from Red Valley, Arizona has pled guilty to abusive sexual contact  after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old.

According to court documents, Darwin Chee, a member of the Navajo Nation, sexually assaulted the 15-year-old girl  at a residence located within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation on Dec. 30, 2021.

A federal grand jury indicted 53-year-old Chee on Nov. 23, 2022.
