Gallup Police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Rim Rock Drive on July 17 at 1:45 am because a man had reportedly been shot.

Chinle man sentenced to 16 years for second degree murder

A man from Chinle, Ariz. has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for second degree murder.

On July 12, Rogche Yoe Begay, 25, was sentenced to his time in prison by United States District Judge Diane J. Humetewa. Begay previously pleaded guilty to second degree murder.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – On July 12, Rogche Yoe Begay, 25, of Chinle, Ariz., was sentenced by United States District Judge Diane J. Humetewa to 16 years in prison. Begay previously pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder.

On July 16, 2019, Begay stabbed a man with a knife, killing him. The crime occurred on the Navajo Nation, where Begay is an enrolled member.

Man goes missing from Gallup hotel

Jimmy Owens, an 82-year-old man, has been missing since July 17. He was last seen near the Economy Motel on the west side of Gallup.

Owens was last seen wearing a black hat and orange checkered shirt. If you have seen him or know where he is, call Metro Dispatch at (505) 722-2002. Reference case # 22-28689.

A red Chevrolet pickup truck was parked in the middle of the road with the driver, Harris John Harvey, 45, of Iyanbito, slumped at the wheel, which led to Gallup Police being called to the scene.

Officer Matthew Strandy was dispatched to the site of the truck at the intersection of Second Street and Maloney Avenue. Upon arriving, he approached the truck and found two males asleep inside with a case of Bud Light between them and an open container of Bud Light in the cup holder.
