Gallup veteran police officer succumbs to cancer

Retired Detective Donald Howard passed away Dec. 18, after losing his battle to brain cancer.

Donations can be made through any Wells Fargo Bank through the account “Donald Howard’s Donation Account.”

There will be an escort beginning at the Gallup Police Department at 10 am. Services will be Dec. 22 at 11 am, at the First Baptist Church located at 2112 College Drive, Gallup, New Mexico.

Family, friends, fellow officers and the community are welcome to join. Line up will begin around 9 am. Civilian parking will be to the north of the parking lot and all officers may park within the gated area.

Community copes with the loss of beloved Miyamura secretary

Lisa Romero-Muniz, 48, a discipline secretary at Miyamura High School, went to the Route 91 Harvest in Las Vegas, NV to cut loose and enjoy top country music stars perform during the three-day festival.

People danced and sang along with Jason Aldean when it began to rain bullets, shortly after 10 pm on Oct. 1.

This is when Romero-Muniz, as many of her friends, students and co-workers alike have said, she earned her wings as an “angel,” albeit, well before her time.

Romero-Muniz was one of 58 victims gunned down by crazed shooter Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, NV, who booked a suite on the 32nd floor at Mandalay...

Michael Charles Sullivan ended a brief battle with cancer on May 17th, 2015, in Boise. He was 73.

He had spent most of his working life in journalism, employed with  the Wood River Journal, Hailey, Idaho; Twin Falls Times-News, Idaho; Gallup Independent, New Mexico; Aspen (Colo.) Daily News; Gazette-Times, Corvallis, Ore.; Ironwood (Mich.) Daily Globe: Marquette (Mich.) Mining Journal and Upper Peninsula (Mich.) Sunday times.

Immediately prior to his transition, at Marquis Skilled Nursing, he had been surrounded by friends and family.
