Gallup, March 25

A Window Rock, Ariz. man was charged with aggravated assault after he threatened a security guard with a weapon.

Gallup Police Officer Luke Martin said he was dispatched to the Lowe’s Shop and Save, 1120 E. Hwy. 66, in connection with a threat. There he met Anthony Tovar, a security officer, who said he had a confrontation with a man later identified as Lenny Nez, 51.

It turned out that Nez was still in the area and he was picked up. He had no weapon, but police found a tool with a sharpened end stuck to a tree where he was seen standing.

Tovar told Martin that he had been watching Nez in the store because he was carrying a big case of beef. Nez...

Gallup Police Officer Dominic Molina said he was dispatched to the Allsup’s Store on Arnold Street because of a man trying to fight employees. Before he got there, the man left the store and drove away.

Molina and another officer found his vehicle on Highway 66 and conducted a traffic stop.

Molina said as he approached the driver’s side, he could see a number of open liquor containers in a child’s car seat in the back left of the vehicle. He added that when he talked to Josiah Yazzie, 29, of Gallup, he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.

Robbery at Speedway

Officer Jeff Barnhurst responded to a possible robbery in progress April 6 at 7:42 am at the Speedway Vanderwagen.

 

When he arrived he saw a man leaving the store.

 

As he approached the front door, manager Anita Spencer said she had been working on stock inventory in the back when she heard the front door bell.  Then she heard the cooler door open and she headed for the front of the store.

 

When she got there she saw a man heading for the exit with two cans of beer and she called out.  She said he turned and told her to open the register and give him all the cash, and he threatened her.

 

She said she set off the alarm, opened the register and gave him the cash.

Gamerco, March 22

A Gamerco woman is facing abuse of a child charges after one of her children called 911 on March 22 about 8 pm and then hung up before talking to the dispatcher.

The dispatcher then called the number back and said the woman who answered the phone sounded like she was intoxicated.

This led to McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Shirley being dispatched to China Loop in Gamerco to see what was going on. When he got to the apartment, he met Deandrea Garcia, 30, who said she was there along with her two boys, six and nine.
