RMCHCS receives $12.5 million in relief funding

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on hospitals around the globe, which is why they have been looking for support wherever they can get it.

Rehoboth McKinley Christian Healthcare Services is no exception. But they have recently been given support from the state and federal governments to the tune of $12.5 million.

David Conejo, RMCHCS CEO, said April 15 the news of potential support funds first broke at the start of the month and the hospital got more information in the past week.

“We were notified we were going to be able to attain $6 million of advance Medicare monies or payments,” Conejo said.

These funds will cover the amount RMCHCS would have earned through Medicare...

Body found in open area in east Gallup

Gallup Police are investigating a body found across from Long John Silver’s restaurant, and north of the railroad tracks on Gallup’s east side April 16.

The department responded after a caller notified GPD about the body that was found leaning against a wall in a ditch area of the Puerco River.

The individual was only identified as a male. And at this time, the department does not suspect foul play.

The body will be sent off for an autopsy to learn more about the cause of death.

“Once we get any results from the autopsy, then we can give more information… but at this time, nothing looked suspicious,” GPD Capt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo said.

Gallup police learned about a person described as "down and out" around 2 pm today (April 21).

Public Service Officers were sent to the scene at 714 South Second St.  The male individual was not breathing.  Medical professionals were called and determined that the man was deceased.

At the time of this report (3:04 pm) GPD Captain Erin Toadlena-Pablo said police officers had not yet made their way to the scene.

The male, whose age has not yet been reported, will most likely be sent for autopsy.

Toadlena-Pablo said at that point it will be possible to determine if there was any foul play.

Sheriff seeks Speedway robber

McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Joey Guillen is looking for help from the public to identify the person involved in a robbery at 7:42 am April 6 at the Speedway in Vanderwagen.

Officer Jeff Barnhurst caught the call of a possible robbery in progress.

When he arrived he saw a man leaving the store.

As he approached the front door, manager Anita Spencer said she had been working on stock inventory in the back when she heard the front door bell.  Then she heard the cooler door open and she headed for the front of the store.
