Still looking for suspect(s) in death of Isiah Terrell Billy

A little over a year ago 30-year-old Isiah Terrell Billy was found dead in a wash in Shiprock on the Navajo Nation.

The cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

Now the FBI has doubled the reward for identification, arrest and conviction...

Gallup Police have located the man they were seeking for questioning

The weekend turned violent at Red Hills Mobile Home Park in Gallup when shots were fired and one man was killed. Gallup Police responded around 7:50 pm Oct. 24 and discovered another male injured.

Detectives and officers were searching for a heavy-set bald man for questioning. He is identified as Melford John, 38, and described as about 5 ' 9" tall, weighing 212 pounds, with tattoos on his face, head, and chest.

Fire means a new home for FASSCO Auto Repair

The fire that burned FASSCO Auto Repair at 105 Mine Run St. Oct. 18 destroyed the building, but not the spirit of Business Manager Cristian Sanchez.

He said he was “ecstatic” that nobody was hurt.

“The building is a total loss,” he said. “The fire started in the back of the building.”

Sanchez said he doesn’t believe there was any criminal intent.

“We don’t know if somebody lit a cigarette and threw it into the weeds.”

They did manage to save the two vehicles inside the garage, one of which belonged to Sanchez. The other, a 2003 Land Rover Discovery Series 2, suffered some damage...

MCSO gets GMCS ready for active shooter situations

Active shooter situations took center stage at the Gallup McKinley County School District board meeting Oct. 4.

McKinley County Undersheriff James Maiorano III gave a presentation about how the sheriff’s office educates GMCS staff about active shootings.

Before COVID-19, the protocol involved three elements: a PowerPoint presentation, takedown drills in which the GMCS staff learns things like how to lock a classroom down, and how to barricade a door, and then the sheriff’s department does a full-blown drill with the staff only.

That is followed by an analysis of how the staff performed and how the safety team could  have improve their response.

Arizona man found dead in Gallup

The body of a 62-year-old Arizona man was discovered outside the Home Depot at 530 Kachina St. in Gallup on the afternoon of Oct. 8.

Gallup Police were called to the scene just before 4 pm and found the man unresponsive. Emergency units pronounced him dead.

The man is identified as Roger Teller, of Chinle. His cause of death has not been determined. Investigators do not suspect foul play. Next of kin have been notified.
