Convenience store clerk injured by thugs

A clerk at a Gallup gas station was transported to the hospital after being cut during an armed robbery late Thursday afternoon.

The McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Khadjha Keams, 22, after a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.



Keams had been arrested on Aug. 28, 2017 on charges of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and two counts of larceny. A resident of Window Rock, Ariz., Keams may be on the Navajo Reservation.



If she is found on reservation land, the Navajo Nation has already approved extradition, according to the sheriff’s office.



Keams had been facing aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge back in October, 2016 but court records said this case was discharged two months later.

Child sex abuser sentenced to 12.5 years in prison

ALBUQUERQUE – William Detwiler, 68, who resides in Vanderwagen, N.M. was sentenced Feb. 7 in federal court here, to 150 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his conviction on child sexual abuse and kidnapping charges.

Detwiler, an Anglo man, will be required to register as a sex offender after completing his prison sentence.

Detwiler, who has a prior conviction for criminal sexual contact with a minor, was arrested on May 31, 2016, on a four-count indictment, charging him with two counts of aggravated child sexual assault and two counts of kidnapping.

CAUGHT: Man wanted for rape found at local hotel

After scouring the area for alleged rapist Julian Martinez, who had a warrant for his arrest signed by a judge Feb. 6, Gallup police received a tip that he was staying at the Red Roof Inn Hotel.

Police quickly closed in and arrested Martinez Feb. 8 for an alleged rape that occurred at a different hotel, about a mile west of Red Roof Inn.

Martinez, 32, has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual penetration in the first degree using force or coercion and causing great bodily harm or mental anguish and one count of false imprisonment.

Jeffrey Denton thought he could get away with intimidating a Giant east clerk by shooting into the ceiling and making off with cash from the till, rolled coins, and some expensive bottles of liquor around 1 am Jan. 19.
