He was found walking along U.S. Highway 491, just south of Yah-ta-hey, at about 2:30 am by MCSO Deputy Jasmine Jaramillo, who noticed his face was covered with lacerations.

Gallup Police Department Officer Francis Collins said he was on regular patrol when he saw a car run a stop sign.

When he approached Watchman, 31, of Window Rock, Collins immediately noticed signs of intoxication, so when the driver admitted he had consumed alcohol before driving, Collins asked him to take a field sobriety test.

Watchman said he was taking codeine for a pain in his right knee but pointed to his left knee. He took the test and failed; he claimed he had stomach pains. He refused to take a breath alcohol test.

Jaramillo reported that the victim was highly intoxicated but lucid enough to tell her who threw him out of the car.

“Yes, it was my friend but I will take care of it,” he told her.

According to the victim, the car was going about 25 miles per...
