The Comfort Suites in Gallup hosted the ‘Nation of Patriots’ as they came to Gallup to receive the American Flag from the Nation of Patriot riders from Arizona July 15. Rio West Mall ‘Kids Fest’ goes to the ‘dog’

About 15 children gathered at the Rio West Mall July 18 to listen to dog care tips, including how to safely approach dogs. They applied those newly learned skills by petting Golden Retriever “Kahuna.”

Children finished the event by coloring photos of their pet, as seen in photos.

Gallup Sun Publisher Babette Herrmann, who also rescue dogs under “Four Corners Pet Alliance,” works closely with volunteers from “Rez Dawg Rescue, Inc.” and “Gallup-McKinley Humane Society” to safely transport rescue dogs out of the immediate area for adoption.

Quilts of Valor: Local vets honored for their service

“To cover veterans  with comfort and healing,” was the comforting words for this year’s presentation of Quilts of Valor for local veterans June 30, at the UNM-G North Adult Education Center.

The handmade quilts were made by the lady volunteers of the “Loyal Order of the Quilt.” Mayor Jackie McKinney proclaimed the last day of June as Proclamation of Quilts of Valor Day and gave a moving speech to honor these veterans.
