No open carry at Texas fast food chain

After years of dispute, the governor of Texas signed legislation that will allow those in Texas to carry handguns openly in public. New Mexico already allows open carry, but the move in Texas brings renewed attention to the issue of openly carrying firearms.

The bill, which will not go into effect until next year, was signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in June. One famous Texas-based fast food chain, however, told customers that non-concealed guns will not be permitted in stores.

The president of Whataburger, Preston Atkinson, issued a statement on the company’s website earlier this month regarding the new gun law and how it will affect customers. He wrote that while the company...

Welfare dependency and its unprivileged offspring

Part 2 of 2

Last week I explored the notion of privilege in relation to racial identity, achievement and children raised in broken homes. The scientific consensus is that success and mental health are greatly heightened when children of all races are raised by both their biological mother and father.

Let’s move along to other correlations. In 1760 Benjamin Franklin observed in his travels around the world “the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. As societies developed it also became apparent that a child abandoned by one or both of their parents would often display behavioral disorders disruptive to society and thus become a burden and even a destructive force.

It behooved tribal community leaders to provide assurances and incentives for families to remain intact. Since children are the defenseless parties in a family, tribal societies granted them birthrights to their biological mother and father and...

Sen. Munoz: the ‘Economic Freedom Index’ is a valuable resource

E-mail Print PDF
Our local Senator George Munoz made it clear last year that our myriad of local vagrancy, alcohol and poverty problems, which have only become worse after decades of the same progressive statist approach, should not be a “blame game”but should be about solutions.

His solution is to keep the status quo. The voters of New Mexico spoke in November sending the clear message they are fed up with democrat solutions, which keep our state economically trailing our neighboring states as well as nationally. Yet, Munoz and his fellow senate democrats insist on economy killing tax hikes to finance capital outlay funding thus obstructing passage of the bill.

That may be just as well though...
