Ruling found state is not meeting requirements for sufficient education

The State of New Mexico expects an overhaul of the state’s public education system to bring it into compliance with the constitution and other state laws after the ruling in Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico that said the state must take steps by April 15 to ensure state schools have the proper resources to prepare students for college and careers.

The announcement was made on a Jan. 10 teleconference call that included plaintiffs from the case, their respective counsel, and several superintendents from New Mexico schools.

Enthusiastic crowd welcomes Nez-Lizer

Hundreds of excited guests filled the Fighting Scouts Events Center in Fort Defiance Jan. 15 to welcome in the newly minted Navajo Nation leadership.

In return, they were treated to the musical stylings of the Navajo Nation Band, flutist Travis Terry, the Rehoboth Choir, along with special performers, Roxyanne Harvey, and Miss Western Navajo Raquel Whitehair.

ALBUQUERQUE – Attorney General Hector Balderas announced a settlement of $209.2 million against Walgreens over their fraudulent dispensing of insulin pens around the nation Jan. 24.


New Mexico is joined by the United States, the District of Columbia, and all other 49 states in settling allegations against Walgreens Boots Alliance.


The agreement in principle resolves allegations that Walgreens knowingly engaged in fraudulent over-dispensing of insulin pens to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Walgreens operates the largest retail pharmacy chain in the U.S., with 8,309 locations across all 50 states.
