The McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a set of bones that were found Sept. 26 on the Mendoza road by an archaeologist.
The remains were found at about the three-mile marker and early indications show that they’re not recent.

Man charged with murder in 2nd Street stabbing
Despite first responders’ life saving measures, a 26-year-old man died Oct. 3 from stab wounds sustained during an alleged confrontation with another man near Second Street and Hill Avenue.
Gallup Police responded to the area near Octavia Fellin Public Library shortly before 1 pm and found the badly injured victim, identified Oct. 4 as Pendrick Yazzie of Red Rock, N.M.
Officers were able to get a lead on the suspect with the assistance of witnesses.
Detectives were called to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and processing the scene for evidence.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Johnson Lee said he was dispatched to the T&R Gas Station north of Gallup on U.S. Highway 491 in connection with a report of a driver at the station who may have been intoxicated.
Lee said when he got to the station, he met the business’s security guard who told him he watched the car enter the station and saw the driver swerve as he was coming in. The driver then allegedly tried to turn around, and hit a cable barrier.

Drunk school bus driver arrested
WINDOW ROCK — The Navajo Police Department arrested a community school bus driver Sept. 24 at 6:59 pm, near the Vanderwagen community.
According to the arresting officer, information came from a parent who was alerted by their child, a passenger on the bus. The child indicated the bus driver was driving dangerously on the road.
The parent was able to intercept the bus and remove the keys from the ignition while safely removing the remaining three children from the bus.
The Window Rock District of the NPD responded and subsequently arrested the bus driver who was booked into the Window Rock Detention Center for DUI, endangering a child and reckless driving.

Life sentence for convicted Albuquerque murderer
ALBUQUERQUE – Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Sept. 25 a sentence in excess of life imprisonment for Ameer Muhammad, the man convicted of the Albuquerque murder of Aaron Sieben in 2017.
Muhammad was found guilty of first degree felony murder, armed robbery, and shoplifting in July after Balderas took the case to trial.
“We have worked tirelessly to provide justice for Mr. Sieben’s family,» Attorney General Hector Balderas said. «Today, they can finally know that the man who has caused them so much pain has been punished to the fullest extent provided by law.”
