An officer was called to the I Knead Sugar Bakery on Feb. 25 around 8 pm after someone called Metro Dispatch about a domestic dispute in which a woman, who was identified as Thomasina Long, stabbed her fiancé after an argument.

When Gallup Police Officer Kyle Delgai arrived at the scene, he met with another officer who said Long, 37, left the area heading south on Aztec Avenue. She was allegedly wearing a sweatshirt and blue pants.

Delgai searched the area, including a ditch on the west side of the bakery. He couldn’t find Long, so he headed back to the business to interview the victim.

Medical staff was treating the victim, but he was able to speak to Delgai. He explained that he and Long had been sleeping in a nearby homeless camp. They had allegedly had an encounter with law enforcement earlier that day, and the incident upset Long. She began arguing with him, and he decided to leave.

The victim said Long broke his phone and she had no way to contact him while he was gone. He said he left for about six hours.

When he arrived back at the camp, Long reportedly attacked him and began choking him. The victim lost consciousness at one point, and said he was probably out for about 15 to 20 seconds.

The victim also noted that Long tried to gouge his left eye out.

In his report Delgai stated that the victim did have injuries, including scratches on his face. He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

A judge signed a warrant for Long’s arrest on Feb. 26, and she was found and arrested on Feb. 28. She was charged with aggravated battery against a household member and deprivation of the property of a household member since she took the victim’s phone.

Judge Virgina Yazzie signed a no contact order for the victim and Long on March 1. Long’s pretrial examination is scheduled for March 20.
