Jeffrey Jishie
Dec. 19, 1:44 pm
Aggravated DWI

A vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 491 and Highway 608, led to multiple calls to Metro Dispatch. One of those came from someone who claimed they were rear-ended by the suspect vehicle.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Terence Willie was dispatched to the scene and found the two vehicles that had collided. A gray Ford F-250 had rear-end damage and a brown Nissan Altima had front-end damage.

The driver of the F-250 said they had pulled to a stop light and saw the Altima coming up behind them quickly. The vehicles collided, after which the driver of the Altima, identified as Jeffrey Jishie, 28, no address given, exited his vehicle and came up to the Ford driver and announced this would be settled “guns by guns.”

Willie met Jishie, and spotted several signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and a smell of alcohol. Jishie also swayed as he stood. Jishie said he was traveling home and the vehicle in front of him did not use its turn signal. However, he also said he was traveling about 55-60 mph in a 40-mph zone.

Jishie said he had some drinks the night before and agreed to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests, but was given alternative tests after he mentioned a hip injury from his Army service. He performed poorly on the alternative tests and was placed under arrest.

He initially refused to take a breath test and was shown to have one prior conviction by Metro Dispatch. However, he was taken to McKinley County Sheriff’s Office and took the breath test, posting samples of .19 and .20. Jishie was taken to McKinley County Adult Detention Center and booked for aggravated DWI, accident involving vehicle damage, careless driving, and having no license, registration, or insurance.

Jishie was released on his own recognizance by Judge Cynthia Sanders.

Aggravated DWI

A call came into Metro Dispatch stating a silver passenger car had almost collided with them near T&R Feed Store and they suspected the driver was under the influence and had passed out in the vehicle.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Terence Willie was dispatched to the scene and found a vehicle matching the description, a gray Lexus IS300, which had collided with a parked brown Chevy Tahoe. The engine was running and the driver, identified as Cole Nez, 30, no address given, was passed out at the wheel.

Willie opened the passenger door and moved to turn the vehicle off. That’s when he found a knife next to Nez. After removing the weapon he woke the driver and asked him to get out of the car. Nez staggered and had difficulty keeping his balance.

He also showed signs of intoxication including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a smell of alcohol.

Nez said he had not consumed any alcohol prior to driving and agreed to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests. However, he performed poorly on the tests and was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle revealed a container of Bud Light under the driver’s seat.

After refusing a breath test, Nez was transported to Gallup Indian Medical Center for medical clearance before he was taken to McKinley County Adult Detention Center and booked for aggravated DWI, immediate notice of accident, careless driving, and consuming alcohol in a vehicle.

Nez was released on his own recognizance by Judge Virginia Yazzie.
