Milan man reports two stolen portable toilets

A situation went awry for a portable toilet owner when two items in his inventory were stolen. The portable toilet owner from Milan was renting two of his toilets to Cutler Construction while they fixed the roads around Thoreau.

The Milan man called the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office March 18. Deputy Jeff Barnhurst met the man at the Old Tomahawk Bar around 10:30 am.

The man told Barnhurst that a few months ago one of his workers had gone out to service the portable toilets and saw that they were missing. The construction company had finished its work and left without calling the company to pick up the toilets.

The man said that he may have found the toilets, but they were at two different locations.

He believed that one of the toilets had possibly been painted red and black.

Barnhurst followed the business owner to the first location where he thought one of the toilets might be.

The address was 93E on the South Chavez Loop in Thoreau. Barnhurst spoke to a man named Nathan Gaddy, who said a couple months ago two men came  to his house and asked if him if he wanted to buy a portable toilet. He agreed to buy a toilet and paid the men $50.

Gaddy explained he didn’t know the men and he didn’t get a clear view of their vehicle because it was late at night.

The portable toilet owner had the toilet loaded up and he and Barnhurst headed to the proposed location of the second portable toilet. They arrived at 154 Pillow Crest in Prewitt, but once he saw the portable toilet there the victim stated it was not his.

The victim thanked Barnhurst for helping him and he said if he got an update on the other portable toilet he would give Barnhurst a call. He also mentioned that the recovered portable toilet’s bottom had been cut out and that the tank was gone. He said it would cost him $250 to get another tank to replace it.
