VANDALISM AT SPEEDWAY

Vanderwagen, June 5

When a Speedway employee arrived at work she walked in on a broken surveillance system and a mess around the store.

On June 5, around 6:21 am, McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Cecil Sanders was dispatched to the Speedway at 1068 State Hwy. 602 in Vanderwagen.

When Sanders arrived, he met with the store’s assistant manager, who said when she got to work around 5:55 am, she found trash had been thrown into the parking lot.

She said that the telephone wire had been ripped from the wall above the main entrance.

She also noticed the conduit pipes that insulate the electrical wires connecting the video surveillance camera to the main office were hanging down close to the ground.

In his report Sanders noted that a fuse box located on the north side wall was open and wires were exposed.

There was no forced entry.

 

MYSTERIOUS FIRE

Mentmore, June 4

A property owner came home to discover burned grass and concluded someone had lit a fire on her property.

On June 4, around 2:33 pm McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Miguel Bittony was dispatched to 4 Zeta St. in Mentmore.

Bittony met with the victim. She stated that she had discovered burned grass along her west fence line which spread onto a small area of the driveway. She said there was no electricity or water to the property because she was currently doing house renovations. No one is currently living in the house.

The Mentmore woman said she had been at the house the day before, and hadn’t noticed any issues. In his report Bittony said that there was no other property damage.

The woman didn’t know how the fire started.

 

MAN FOUND WITH METH

Gallup, May 19

The discovery of a crystal fragment led Gallup Police Department’s Agent Timothy Hughte to the Lariat Motel at 1105 U.S. Rte. 66 May 19, around 7:35 pm.

Officer Norman Bowman told Hughte he found a crystal-like substance when he searched a man named Lionald Miller, 44, of Gallup, after his arrest. He also found a used syringe.

Gallup Police Department agents collected the fragment from patrol officers. Miller was taken to the Gallup Police Department.

When the substance was identified as methamphetamine, Miller was taken to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Miller was released on his own recognizance.
