The FBI is warning the public about scammers exploiting the 2024 U.S. General Election to perpetrate multiple types of financial fraud schemes. These scams target victims across the U.S. and have previously exploited state and local elections for similar scams.

Scammers use the names, images, logos, and slogans of candidates to fraudulently solicit campaign contributions, sell merchandise (which is never sent to the purchaser), or steal  a victim's personally identifiable information that can be used for other fraud.

ALBUQUERQUE — A Washington D.C. federal appeals court upheld the conviction of Couy Griffin for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2020, attack on the U.S. Capitol on Oct.22. Griffin is a disgraced former Otero County Commissioner, founder of the Cowboys for Trump mob of extremists, and a close political ally of Yvette Herrell who has a long record of espousing far-right conspiracy theories and election denial after Trump lost in 2020.

Democratic turnout far outpacing Republicans' in early voting

ALBUQUERQUE — A week from Election Day, Democratic turnout is outpacing Republicans’ by an increasingly significant margin as early voting progresses. At this point, Democrats make up the majority of all voter turnout in New Mexico’s general election with 34% more votes cast than Republicans.

As of Oct. 21, the majority of votes cast in New Mexico’s general election were from Democrats, with just under 100,000 votes. Republicans had only cast just under 70,000 votes and Declined to State voters have cast 25,000 votes.
