No matter what you may read in the coming paragraphs, make no mistake, I appreciate the work of director Garry Marshall. Growing up, he was responsible for two of my favorite TV shows (Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days) and has had popular hits on the big screen with titles like Pretty Woman. However, over the past few years he’s delivered a pair of ensemble comedies (New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day) that I haven’t cared for. Clearly inspired by the excellent Christmas-set 2003 hit Love Actually, neither of them have come even close to attaining that sharp balance of humor and warmth.

I’m not entirely sure that anyone was clamoring for it, but this week we’re receiving yet another sequel. The follow-up to the 2012 Snow White film is called The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Unfortunately for fans of the first film, the heroine is merely mentioned in passing and only seen once (from behind). Instead, this movie is focused primarily on the title Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth).

If you do happen to find yourself in the theater watching the action/thriller Criminal this weekend, I can think of a game you can play to pass the time. It’s called “The Dutchman” and it involves taking a drink each time you hear that name uttered. A word of warning - by the final act, it seems like it’s being yelled every single minute. I expect most will be thoroughly smashed by the credit roll. The fact there are now cinemas where drinking is a legitimate option leaves me both amused and frightened.
