A drug overdose is apparently what killed a Gallup man found unresponsive Oct. 29 in an open field near Indian Hills, according to a police report.

Officer Ryan Blackgoat of the Gallup Police Department recorded in a police report that Erick Lee, 34, was lying face down when he arrived at an area in Indian Hills near Zia Drive.

“I could see that he was not breathing,” Blackgoat recorded. “I see the male subject laying there feet facing north, head facing south on the dirt ground.”

Blackgoat wrote that a female friend of Lee’s said the two were released from Gallup Detox earlier that day. Gruber said the two shot up “strips” of heroin...

Gallup’s Aging Infrastructure Revealed, Again

The residential area at the intersection of Fifth Street and Hill Avenue in Chihuahuita suffered another devastating water line break Oct. 25, officials confirmed at this week’s Gallup City Council regular meeting.

The break was to the 16-inch water main that feeds the Grandview tank, which supplies water throughout the city, City Water and Sanitation Director Dennis Romero told council members.

“There was another break,” he said. “We are working practically around the clock to get things repaired.”

Gallup Film Liaison Lisa Rodriguez updated the Gallup City Council at its Oct. 25 regular meeting on the latest happenings around greater McKinley County with respect to filmmaking. The matter was listed on the meeting agenda as an information item and not as something that required council action.

Rodriguez, city film liaison for the past 10 years, is contracted with the city at an annual fee of $11,500 to bring opportunities to Gallup. She puts on the annual Native Film Series that takes place at the El Morro Theatre. The film series is free to the public and offers films from around the United States.
