Aggravated DWI (Third)
Gallup Police pulled over Sharon Jeff, 56, of Gallup, after she was found driving without headlights. She was arrested for her third DWI.
Officer Vincent Thompson reportedly witnessed the suspect vehicle, a gray Ford Focus, drive from Sports Page Bar at 1400 S. Second St. to Apache Circle without headlights before he pulled the vehicle over at the intersection of Apache Circle and Park Avenue.
Thompson issued a call for assistance before speaking with the driver, Jeff. She told him she had been at Sports Page and had consumed an unspecified number of alcoholic beverages but was okay to drive. Thompson requested Jeff to provide the required documentation, but while she reportedly gave registration and insurance, she stated she did not have her driver’s license.
Officer Aaron Marquez then arrived on the scene and continued the investigation. Jeff told Marquez she had consumed two Michelob Ultras at Sports Page while talking with a friend. While speaking to Jeff, Marquez observed her demonstrate several signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelling of alcohol. Thompson reportedly stated she was staggering as she exited her vehicle as well.
After talking to Marquez, Jeff agreed to take the Standard Field Sobriety Tests. However, she performed poorly on the tests and was placed under arrest based on Marquez’s investigation and observations. Jeff refused to take the breath test and was eventually transported to McKinley County Adult Detention Center and booked for aggravated DWI (third), driving with no headlights, not providing a driver’s license, and driving while license revoked.
Her pre-trial hearing was held on Dec. 22.
