MONDAY, MAY 2

SUMMER INDIGENIOUS ARTS: DANCE PROGRAM

7 pm to 8 pm @ the Gallup Cultural Center (201 E. Hwy. 66). Experience authentic traditional dances from a variety of area tribes, featuring traditional drum, rattle, and flute instruments along with explanations regarding the cultural traditions that surround these dances outside the Gallup Cultural Center. The program will kick off on May 2 and happen on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the summer.

SATURDAY, MAY 7

FRIENDS OF HUBBELL NATIVE AMERICAN ARTS AUCTION

12 am to 4 pm @ Gallup Community Service Center (410 Bataan Veterans St.). Shop more than 300 vintage and contemporary Navajo weavings, plus pottery, katsina dolls, jewelry, baskets, and silver work.Admission is free to the public and there is no buyer registration fee. Auction item preview is from 9:00-11:30 and the auction from 12:00-4:00 pm.

MOTHER’S DAY CRAFT FAIR

21ST ANNUAL CELEBRACIÓN DE CINCO DE MAYO

12 pm to 4 pm @ Downtown Gallup. While May 7 isn’t the actual Cinco de Mayo, you don’t want to miss out on this celebration of the Mexican holiday and the Anniversary of the Battle of Pueblo.  Visit the heart of downtown Gallup for free entertainment, mariachi, Hispanic dancers, and more!

FREE FAMILY ART KIT DISTRIBUTION

12 pm to 5pm @ ART123 Gallery (123. W. Coal Ave.) and 1 pm @ the Zuni Fairgrounds. Make a small journal from recycled materials and pages to fill with your dreams, reflections, and observations--including guided activities to celebrate the unique and wonderful YOU!

SATURDAY, MAY 14

ARTS CRAWL

7 pm to 9 pm @ Downtown Gallup. Come experience local and professional art,  artist demonstrations, gallery openings, live music, hands-on crafts, and games for the kids.

“THE TRANSITION”

7 to 9 pm @ ART123 Gallery (123. W. Coal Ave.). “The Transition”  is a narrative art installation by Zuni artist Dennis Dewa that sharply contrasts the current state of the environment with the brighter future that is possible through immediate, radical change through a landscape mural.

FRIDAY, MAY 27

NAVAJO RUG WEAVING

10 am to 2 pm @ the Main Library (115 W. Hill Ave.). Learn the fundamentals and techniques of rug weaving in traditional Diné style, including warping, carding and spinning.
