Scheduled water outage for Feb. 29

A scheduled water outage that will affect parts of Aztec Avenue, Highway 66, and Churchrock Street will take place on Feb. 29 from 9 am to 4 pm.

The outage will affect City of Gallup Water customers in the following areas:

  • 3000 block of Churchrock Street
  • 3300 E. Aztec Ave.
  • 3400 E. Hwy. 66
The city's water department will be repairing a water leak in the area and will need to shut off the water in order to do their work safely.

Surrounding areas may experience low water pressure.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council’s Naa’bik’íyáti’ Committee approved Legislation No. 0044-24 on Feb. 22.

The legislation issues recommendations to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Victims of Crime’s Tribal Victims Services Set-Aside Formula Grant Program, calling for equitable distribution, funding streams dedicated to construction and renovation projects, an established Missing and Murdered Indigenous People coordinator, technical assistance resources, and funding for MMIP community-based awareness efforts.

Newcomb man pleads guilty to assault up on a federal officer

A man from Newcomb is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted two Navajo Police officers.

On June 4, 59-year-old Kenneth Lee Begay interrupted a Chapter House meeting with verbal threats. Afterwards, two Navajo Nation Police Department officers went to his home. As the officers tried to arrest Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation, he unlawfully resisted.

Begay struck both officers. One of the officers received various injuries, which included cuts, abrasions, and a shoulder injury that persists to the present day.

Zuni man pleads guilty to firearms offense

A man from Zuni New Mexico has pled guilty to a federal firearms offense after he reportedly shot a man in the heel.

A federal grand jury indicted 31-year-old Ian Channing Lasiloo on March 21. In his plea agreement, Laslioo, a member of the Zuni Tribe, admitted that he drove to of the residence of a man and asked him “where my 40 was.”  The victim replied that he didn’t owe Lasiloo anything.  While still in the driver’s seat of the car, and approximately five feet away from the victim, Lasiloo pointed a .22 caliber revolver at the victim's face and then pointed the weapon downwards.  Lasiloo then fired the weapon one time, shooting the man in the heel.
