Gallup=McKinley County Schools is allowing alternative accommodations for students and parents acknowledging that they want their student(s) to participate in traditional practices involved in the upcoming eclipse on April 8.

The eclipse will begin at approximately 11:15 am and will end at approximately 1:45 pm.

Parents wishing to keep their students at home for any period of time during this day can provide a note to the school to have an excused absence.

If students come to school and students or parents/guardians express their desire to have students recognize the traditional aspects of this event then:

The McKinley County Sheriff's Office is working with the New Mexico State Police to locate two runaway juveniles from Kansas.

Juan Bender and Logan Kostel, both about 16 years old, were last possibly wearing black hoodies and shorts and carrying luggage and/or sleeping bags.

They reportedly left Kansas on April 6, possibly heading to Los Angels in an unknown vehicle, which was abandoned and towed by another agency. Their last known location is either Prewitt or Thoreau.

The juveniles will avoid and run from law enforcement. They are possibly carrying BB guns that appear to be real guns.

The Gallup Fire Department was notified on April 5 that one of its members was placed into custody after charges were filed by the New Mexico Department of Justice. Immediately after learning of the incident the member was placed on Administrative Leave.

In a press release, the City of Gallup and the GFD stated that they are taking the allegations concerning the person seriously. The release also stated that the alleged conduct of this member does not represent the vision or mission of the City of Gallup and the GFD. The press release stated:
