McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Shirley was dispatched to a house on North Ola Drive in Yah-ta-hey after receiving a report of a dispute on Aug. 7.

Shirley arrived at the scene about 4:40 pm and spotted the suspect, identified as Myron Lee, 30, of Yah-ta-hey, exiting the residence. As Shirley exited his unit, he said Lee began to approach him in an aggressive manner with his arms raised. Shirley told Lee to calm down, but he continued to shout and walk toward him.

Deputy Frank Villa arrived on scene, and Lee turned and walked back inside the house. He came out again holding a two-foot long machete and seemed ready to fight. Shirley and Villa had their service pistols drawn and...

Gallup police seeking public’s help in suspicious death

The Gallup Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in solving the death of an as-of-yet unidentified person.


Investigations Captain Billy Padavich said Gallup officers were dispatched to Cedar Crest Apartments, 220 E. Nizhoni Blvd., about 8:48 pm on Aug. 22 in reference to a male who was lying in the southern portion of the parking lot of the complex and was not breathing.


“When GPD officers arrived, there were a couple bystanders performing CPR on this individual along with one officer,” he said.


Medical personnel arrived on scene shortly afterward and took the subject to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Terence Willie said he was on routine patrol when he was alerted to a possible drunk driver who was weaving all over the road north of Gallup on U.S. Highway 491.

He went to T&R Market and asked the woman who called in to identify the driver. She said it was the nearby man urinating outside of his vehicle. Another witness told Begay the man almost hit him.

By this time, Jerome Eskeets, 45, of Chinle, Ariz., had sat down on the ground in front of Willie’s police unit and had seemingly gone to sleep. Willie said he had to wake him up.

After he did, he asked Eskeets how much he had to drink that day...

EARLY MORNING BUST

Gamerco, July 26

A Gallup man is facing charges of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and concealing identity after a chase that spanned overnight.

The incident began on Rosita Street in Gamerco with a report of gunshots being fired from a red pickup truck.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Salazar arrived on scene about 2 pm on July 25 but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle. Two hours later, the vehicle was located in the same area with multiple occupants inside the cab. As backup arrived, the pickup sped off, heading north on U.S. Highway 491 and then west on State Highway 264.
