Navajo Police: Missing Utah child found deceased

ANETH, UT –  The Navajo Division of Public Safety believes the body of missing 4-year-old Anndine Jones has been recovered from the McElmo Creek April 3, according to a news release.

Jones has been missing since March 14. Extensive search efforts were made by community members and public safety entities from the Navajo Nation, area counties and municipalities. Volunteer searchers discovered Jones in the Creek north of the Aneth community April 3.

Jones was tentatively identified by her parents. Positive identification is pending from the Office of the Medical Examiner.

"This has been a difficult time for everyone involved," Navajo Police Chief Phillip Francisco stated in a press release. "At this time, we ask for the public's patience and understanding. Details will be limited in the forthcoming days as the investigation continues. As protocol, the Navajo Division of Public Safety is investigating with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We ask that the public continue to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this difficult time."

This case is being investigated by the Navajo Division of Public Safety and the FBI.
